Why Work With Us?

Join a team that puts people first.

Find your perfect role in a company that offers an incredible future, built on 80 years of success.

At Darnells we provide a positive and inclusive work environment that offers more. We invest time and energy into our team, providing extensive training opportunities and social events. We believe that family should always come first and support all staff to balance home life and work commitments.

As employees or business owners, freelancers or contract staff we all spend a great deal of our lives at work. That’s why we believe an employment environment should be a nurturing and uplifting space, somewhere that values the individual and recognises unique abilities and achievements.

Mindful Employer

At Darnells we are proud to be part of the Mindful Employer Charter, which acknowledges Employers Positive about Mental Health. By signing this charter, we have made a declaration to support the mental wellbeing of all our employees by upholding the following values:

  1. To provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff experiencing mental ill-health.
  2. To not make assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work.
  3. To be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition.
  4. To support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace.
  5. To ensure fairness in the recruitment of new staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010).
  6. To make it clear that people who have experienced mental ill-health will not be discriminated against, and that disclosure of a mental health condition will enable both the employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support and/or adjustment.

Wellbeing Champions

As part of our commitment to being a Mindful Employer we have created a successful in-house Wellbeing Champion Group.

Our Champions meet once a month to discuss different aspects of wellbeing and explore solutions that will allow us to better support our team.

This includes addressing factors that could affect an individual’s mental or physical health and being proactive about pathways to drive forward employee care and wellbeing initiatives.

Mental Health First Aiders

Here at Darnells we are pleased to be able to offer the support of our Mental Health First Aiders to employees.

What Is a Mental Health First Aider? A Mental Health First Aider is someone who is trained to recognize the signs of mental health issues and provide initial assistance. They are not therapists, but they can offer a listening ear, practical advice, and help connect individuals with appropriate resources.

How Can They Help?

  • Active Listening: Our Mental Health First Aiders are here to listen without judgment. If you need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to reach out.
  • Signposting: They can guide you to relevant resources, whether it’s professional counselling, self-help materials, or community support.
  • Confidentiality: Conversations with our Mental Health First Aiders are confidential, unless there’s a risk to your safety or someone else’s.

We are all in this together to create a supportive and compassionate environment where everyone feels comfortable seeking help when needed.

Social Events

Part of the inclusive and supportive environment we create at work includes our extensive social events calendar. Giving all our staff a chance to rest, relax and make positive connections outside of work hours.

We have found this to be one of our strongest initiatives supporting the development and growth of our team members and our business.

At Darnells we have long celebrated our collaborative style of working. Alongside our extensive knowledge base and decades of experience, this approach enables us to provide proactive and rapid problem solving that drives success and creates peace of mind for our clients.

Our Social Committee members meet regularly throughout the year to plan and run a wide range of events, helping our employees to achieve a good work/life balance.

All events are aimed at creating a positive impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of all those who attend. They also give people a chance to socialise with colleagues from across the business.

The Social Committee have recently set up a very popular Rounders team and our Darnellies Netball Team are part of the well established Torbay Summer League.

Members of the Social Committee also organise our annual Christmas Party and Summer Social, as well as other seasonal events that are great fun and well attended.

Supporting and facilitating events and activities like these is all part of our commitment to the whole of the individual, and it has a huge, positive impact on the health and happiness of our team.
